Books

December 7, 2007 at 10:49 pm (Uncategorized) (, )

I am not a bookworm person, beside the ones I have to read for college of course, but recently two books came in that I had not choice but doing them. One is the Year Book and the other is titled Podge and Rodge: The Ballydung Bible.

This is my graduation year and the class reps are hunting me to get my own page in the year book. I managed to get few friends to write few words (300) about me and thats what I am using for my page in that book.

As you might have seen my avatar is a puppet holding a scalpel. This is Podge and he is the filthiest creature you might ever pump in to!

The book is extremely funny and there is no way in hell you’ll find a copy in Kuwait. I might post few pages to show you the amount of filthy humor there is in it.

Backup: Discovering The Full Potential of Automator and iPod

June 4, 2007 at 10:55 am (Uncategorized) (, , , , , , , , , , , )

So I am heading back to Mishref this summer, and I needed to backup all the stuff I have on my iMac to my iPod. iPhoto and iCal are already synced so as the address book and music of course. Few folders remained not synced so I enabled the desk usage on the iPod and dragged and dropped the folders. Then I remembered a nifty tool called Automator. After spending 20 min’s I made up a workflow that whenever I plug my iPod it will:

1- Rename the files on the desktop by adding todays date after each of them

2- “clean up” the desktop by moving these file to a backup folder on my iMac

3- Copy all the new files to my iPod

This will make me miss my iMac for the whole summer. Luckily I got my macbook to play with meanwhile.

Perfect Stranger: Review

April 15, 2007 at 11:11 pm (Uncategorized) (, , )

Bruce

Just came from the cinema . Perfect Stranger movie was awesome, interesting, and worth every cent of the overly priced online ticket!. It shows how everyone of us has his/her dirty online (and indeed offline) secret and how we try to deceive ourselves about “burying” these secrets were no one know about.

Bruce Willis is a huge star, I just wish he appeared for a longer time in the movie. However, he fulfilled his role 100% as well as Hale Berry and Giovanni Ribisi.

It is interesting how they were using some crappy “software” instead of AOL/msn/yahoo/etc.. messenger just to avoid ruining the reputation of this chatting network or maybe for legal issues!. Even when they were using Mac OS X version of Netscape there was no hint for a mac or even “Netscape”!. They’ve tried hard to keep the audience think that people using the service are the source of the problem and not to interpret it to the network/service itself that they have used for online chatting.

The theater was hot. I couldn’t stop thinking about how I must buy – hopefully one day – my own HD TV or Projector and watch the latest DVD’s (Blue Ray) peacefully on PS3 at the comfort of my home.

I would rate the movie 4/5.

P.S. keeping in mind that the movie holding the 5/5 mark in my mind is The Gladiator.

Mini-Review of NeoOffice 2.1 OS X (intel)

March 28, 2007 at 11:07 pm (Uncategorized) (, , , )

Neooffice 2.1 is out !
NeoOffice Main Page
3 words. Practical,  Arabic, Free.

Two Days ago NeoOffice.Org released their latest version of the Office Documents Application. It now works natively on Intel mac’s without the need for X11 application.
As you can see the aqua look of the program blinds beautifully with the OS X .

I’ve quickly used it to open a ppt presentation which included notes with each slide. It wasn’t as practical as MS Office 2004 PowerPoint where you get an “IFrame” like window beneath each slide to view the notes attached. But it did work well in NeoOffice.

Impress !

The .xls files work great and you even get the taped spread sheets work as it should do.

So far the only disadvantage I’ve faced is how slow the program takes to load files. But once it does everything flows smoothly !.

Now the mac experience is complete.
